Week of June 2nd

 

Rene, RA Edie, Rod and Bobtoc ran from the Centre west and south to Winston Street, then into the Burnaby Lake Park north trail through to the nature house.  From there the four ran north on Piper Avenue, east on Government Road to Brighton Avenue. Rene left the trio to run at a faster pace.  The four all used the same route back to the Centre, i.e., east on Eastlake. Time for the trio, 1:09, Rene leaving them in his dust.  The four enjoyed a cool evening, ideal for their run.

On Wednesday eight Cruisers appeared for run/walks.  Adele and Tracy commenced their walk using the Stoney Creek trail and North Road and beyond. The runners were pleased to see them!   Rene, Larry, Laura, Libby, Rod and Bobtoc ran to Como Lake, circled it once before returning to the Centre, times varying from 1:05 for Rene and up to 1:15 for the others, distance 8.5 km.  The eight experienced overcast skies, cool temperature and a hint of rain at walk/run's end.

Edie reports:

Laurie and I did the 10k Starbuck's Run for Women Saturday.  The run started at Thunderbird Stadium and was routed through the trails of Pacific Spirit park, so a bit of a challenging run.  The weather was perfect for running and the forest was pretty.  I had no idea where I was running, just followed the people in front of me.  My time was about 1:19, there are no times posted yet, and Laurie was way ahead of me.  Rachel volunteered as a course marshall and ran in the last 2k or so with me, which was very nice.  Laurie drove Rachel home and we saw the wonderful job she is doing with her garden where she lives.  Very pretty.  My legs are feeling very sore today, which is unusual, so I guess it was the terrain. 

 

Bobtoc reports:

 

Larry, Rod, Gyun Moon and Bobtoc met at the Centre Saturday morning.  The appearance of Gyun was a welcome surprise and provided an opportunity to catch up on the academic activiities of daughter Jennifer at UBC, Andrew in his final year at high school and plans to enter the engineering faculty at UBC next year, and that Agnes, his wife, had taken a position decorating cakes, a skill she has amply demonstrated to us some time ago.  The four headed west, with Gyun running to Duthie and Greystone and return to Cameron Centre, his distance 12 km.  Larry, Rod and Bobtoc continued west to Alpha Avenue and Francis Street with a stop at the Kensington Rink enroute then returned to Cameron Centre; distance 20 km, time over 3 hours with waits for Bobtoc.  The trio were met by Tracy on her bike near the golf course on their trek westward toward Kensington Rink, togged out in helmet, sunglasses and brilliant green vest.  All  enjoyed a cool, overcast morning, ideal for the lsd run and Tracy's cycling.
