Jun. 30th:  On Sunday Rod ran as follows:

Went out from home today. Up to old IGA, pit stop at Squint Lake Park and home via shellmont. Time out 1h25, distance 11km. Very hot and sticky morning.

On Monday July 1st seven Cruisers including one John Saremba who who does not deal at arm's length with Christina, met at the Burnaby Lake parking lot at 8:00 on a sweltering morning.  The seven set out for a run'walk for either an hour or to the Nature house and return.  RA Edie, Laura, Christina, Larry and Alex made the distance to the Nature house within 25 minutes or so.  John and Bobtoc walked mostly, taking the time and energy to get caught up on a number of subjects, eg, Hydro apprenticeships, wisdom from an older chap (didn't take long), the importance of Redcaps, prostates, women, etc.  Total time out for the first five about 50 minutes, for the two sages, about an hour. Valuable conversation, valuable friendship.

July 3rd:  Three cruisers, Tracy, Larry and Rod walked from Cameron along the Stoney Creek trail to North Road, then back up north Road, dropping Tracy off near her home and the remaining two went back to Cameron,  Tracy has completed her course and is happy to be "free"/  Larry had a cystoscopy this morning and got positive results, which is really great.

Distance 4 km, time 55 min.

From Jennel in Coquitlam:
Left from home at 8pm, so enjoyed ideal temperature.  Ran solo since Heather could not connect. Ran to Town Centre Park from my place (20min.), then ran the perimeter of Town Centre Park & Lafarge Lake 3 times!  Nice breeze by the lake….:Lots of people out.  Good run.  Then back UP the hill to my home!  Total time: 1:36, total distance 14.15km

From Burnaby Heights:

RA Edie, Laurie and Bobtoc attend the Giro di Burnaby dinner meeting for the volunteers manning the upcoming cycle races at the Heights July 11.  Great to re-connect with so many runners.

  

Thursday in Coquitlam:

Anamaria, Sofia & I ran around the track at Bramblewood Elementary. on a   FULL course running track!  We ran one full loop/   Anamaria ended the run by saying…"I'm for sure going to beat Bob in the race!!!"  She's a fast little runner that girl:)  See you all on Wednesday!

Saturday July 6th:

Bob came to see off Flora, Rachel, Edie, Len, Larry and Rene for the Saturday morning run on a beautiful 18 degree sunny morning.  The group started off towards Joe's Trail together and the boys ran 9k to Larry's Hill and Larry and Rene ran back to Cameron, while the girls ran/walked 7.66 in 1:23 to the end of the trail and back.  Len had his barefoot shoes on while running with the guys but took his shoes off when he caught up to the girls and ran/walked back to Cameron with them.   After the run, Ross met Flora, Rachel, Edie and Larry at Joey's in Coquitlam for coffee and discussed the upcoming Cruiser road trip to Santa Barbara in November.  

A little drink of water after a run is very nice!

Sunday in Port Moody

 

 April and Edie met Christina, John, and Sherian at Rocky Point this morning for a run.   (7.5k in 1:20) Before we started, Leanne got out of her car with her dog, Lexy.  She was meeting a friend to run with.   She looks great, her oldest will start high school in September.   She said to say hi to you.
On the way back we saw a bear grazing, not bothering anyone, but April and I went by fast.😅 John took photos while the rest of us did run 4 walk 2.🏃🚶RAEdie

Three only Cruisers turned out Monday at the Centre on a sweltering evening.  RA Edie together with April, Rod and Bobtoc tackled a walk on the Stoney Creek trail to North Road and returned to the Centre, notwithstanding bear warnings.  The trio saw neither  bears nor bares, despite the heat.  Time and distance, 50 minutes, 4 clicks.

At Cameron Centre, three walkers turned up - Larry, Susan Vedoy and Nasuka (who lives in a neighbouring complex next to Larry's and Susan's) and walked the Stoney Creek trail to North Road, along North Road, noting the progress of the Skytrain preparations and the closing of the Norgetown laundromat, then turned onto Cameron St. and returned to Cameron Centre, distance about 5 km, time 1 hour even.  Great day to be out to walk!

RA Edie, Rod, Jennel with her daughters Anamaria and Sofia,  Heather Tecsun and hubby James plus Bobtoc ran or walked the Running Room annual 20 minute challenge at the PoCo store and took home grey 2013 Run caps.   Bobtoc, Jennel and her girls managed to squeen the 20 minute challenge into 28 minutes and change.  A good crowd out, hot weather.

Thursday's activity:

 

RA Edie, Laurie and Bobtoc as volunteers for the 6th annual Giro di Burnaby worked Thursday afternoon and evening at the superbly conducted women's and men's bicycle races which took place on Hastings St in Burnaby Heights.  The weather again was superb, never a rain at these events.  Kudos again and again to Rainy Kent, husband Joe Turtle for the excellent organization and implementation of these thrilling events.  It is always amazing to witness and be part of the transformation of Hastings St to a race course from 4:00 pm and the return to traffic at 10:00 pm.  The erecting and takedown of the fencing along is an art form similar to ballet. Well, maybe a foxtrot.  

On Saturday, seven runners and walkers were able to rise for the 7:30 start, with Larry and Judy Potter (another Coast to Coast walker!) walking along Joe's Trail, while Edie, Christina, René, Len and Rod running along the trail, with Len, Rod and René going into Hume Park, then all returned to Cameron Centre.  Another beautiful summer sunny morning, quite a run of weather lately, perfect for getting out there and getting 'er done.  Time 1 hour 15 minutes, 8.5 km for René, Rod and Len, about 7ish km for Edie, Christina, Larry and Judy.  Rachel attended at the usual 8 a.m. start and had a good run around the Forest Grove route, starting from the Gaglardi overpass and continuing down Underhill, Eastlake and ya know the rest, time about 1 hour, 7ish km.

On Monday night RA Edie, Rod and Bobtoc turned out at the Centre.  Due to the sweltering heat the trio opted to walk with minimum running using the familiar route being the Stoney Creek trail to North Road and return; time and distance, 48 min. and change, and 3.86km.  We were pleased to meet Stormin' Norman as he completed a solo walk, and even more pleased to see and talk to his wife and two daughters on their return from Loughheed Mall.  Good conversation, good folks.

Tracy and Larry walked with the group along the Stoney Creek trail, cut over past the elementary school, across the Gaglardi overpass, and up Forest Grove Drive, where Bob, Alex and Rod started running.  The two walkers continued up Forest Grove to Underhill, where they turned back along Forest Grove and the overpass again and back to Cameron Centre, taking advantage of the shade along the way.  Time of walk, 1hour 22 minutes, distance about 7.5ish km.   

July 17th: Alex, Rod and Bobtoc continued from Forest Grove Drive and Underhill to Shellmont, continuing west into Meadowwood, then south and west on Meadowwood Drive to Arden Drive, south to Broadway, east to Eastlake to return the usual way to the Centre.  Rod had his best run for a few weeks, leaving Alex who shepherded Bobtoc and managed a 1:16 time while minder Alex and Bobtoc managed 1:27 for the 9.1 distance.   The aforementioned breeze relieved the day's heat for the evening run/walks.

Nine Cruisers turned out to Rocky Point early Saturdayo n a sublime morning complete with a breeze which eased the heat experienced recently.  The nine broke into three groups:  Larry and Flora walked to mid-Alderside Dr before returning, guestimated distance 5 km.  Sherian and Edie together with Cruiser canine April ran to and from April Road, guestimated distance 9km, while the third group, consisting of Len, Rod, Laura (home from Ireland), Alex and Bobtoc ran through to the Ioco gates and return to Rocky
Point, distance 11 km.  The nine congregated in accordance to our tradition at the pier to feast on the sights and sounds of the ocean, skies and panoramas around.   Life is good.

On Friday Jennel made a one hour run pushing a stroller on  Parkway Blvd near her home.  A visit from Grandma and Colin Saturday took precedence over her proposed run at Rocky Point.  Makes sense.

Monday July 22nd:

The three Cruisers Senators, ie Alex, Rod and Bobtoc met at and walked from Cameron Centre Monday on a warm to hot evening.  The trio;s route included the Stoney Creek trail to North Road to Chapman Avenue through to Robinson Street, then south to Ebert Avenue back to the  Cameron Centre crossing North Road into Sullivan Heights.  Time and distance,1:15, distance 7+ km.

 

Jennel's Tuesday run in Coquitlam: 

Last min. decision:  I went for a 1.5 hour run from my house, down David to Town Centre Park, did  2 laps of the park and Lafarge Lake (1 inner lap and 1 outer lap, if that makes sense).  Saw Heather's husband, James playing volleyball at the park.  Then ran back home all up hill!  Late run; ran super fast to make it back before dark.  Didn't quite make it before sundown, but I sure tried and ran HARD & FAST!!!
Wednesday's activity: 

 

Six Cruisers: Alex, RA Edie with canine April,Larry, Rod, Tracy and Bobtoc walked from the Centre to the Stoney Creek trail, east to North Road.  Edie and Larry walked north to Gilroy, then north to Chapman St, west to North Road then returned to the Centre.  Alex, Rod, Tracy and Bobtoc from the Creek trail moved north on North Road to Chapman St, east to Robinson St to Foster Ave, then west on Foster to North Road, into Sullivan Heights, dropped Tracy off and the remaining three continued to the Centre.  Time and distance for the four, 1:17 and 6.5 km.  The six endured a hot night, albeit more comfortable than Monday.

Six Cruisers ran or walked from Rocky Point Saturday on a cooler than usual morning, which aided the activity.  The group used the bicycle paths instead of the beach paths to minimize potential falls due to the rocks and roots on the beach paths.  Larry walked to Alderside Roal approx half way between the Orchard Park Beach and April Road, his time 1:15.  Rod, Alex, RA Edie, Jennel and Bobtoc ran, with Bobtoc running very slowly, to the Ioco refinery gates, then the roads in the former Ioco townsite.  Distance 12:5 km, time varying between 1:45 and for Bobtoc 1:57.  Jennel teamed up with Alex for a fast run on the return leg, and Alex backtracked to run Bobtoc in.  

 

July 31st:  Five Cruisers ran or walked from Cameron Centre Wednesday in the evening which featured cooler temperatures and some breeze which eased the run/walk in comparison with the recent hotter and humid conditions.  RA Edie with the canine Cruisers together with Larry and Laura walked the Forest Grove Drive route, using Eastlake, Underhill, FG Drive, the pedestrian overpass, the Stoney Creek trail, time and distance, 1;30,  6.5 km.  Rod and Bobtoc ranwith some walking  to the IGA, sorry, Super Valu route and return, time and distance 1:30 and 8.7 km.

 

Jennel and Heather teamed up for a run Wednesday also.  Jennel reports:  Reporting Heather & I ran from each of our homes (aprox. 20 min.) to meet at Lafarge Lake.  We headed towards the track Jennel advises they will share tthe Cameron Cruisers motto  with the guys  if it happens to rain!!!
