Sunday morning! Five Cruisers competed at the BMO Marathon events, three running the marathon, one the half, and one the 8 km. The thousands competing and the spectators enjoyed spectacular weather and well-organized runs.

Wednesday May 4th: Seven
Cruisers met at the Centre Wednesday on perhaps the best night of the
year, an evening with a much more comfortable temperature, say +15C,
than that experienced Monday evening. RA Edie and Eoin teamed up to
walk the Stoney Creek trail to the gate at North Road and return,
distance about 5 k.. Cheryl, Larry, Laura, Rod and Bobtoc ran or rogged
west. Rod ran along Eastlake to Shellmont at Arden Drive, turned up
Shellmont to Underhill, south to Eastlake to return to the Centre. His
time and distance, 1:15, 8.5 km. Cheryl, Larry, Laura and Bobtoc
ran/rogged to the IGA corner, with Larry running faster than the
others; on the return he ran to Shellmont to Underhill, south to
Eastlake to return to the Centre. His distance was about 10 k, time
unknown. The remaining three on their return to the Centre also ran to
Shellmont, east crossing Underhill onto the lane to the tennis courts
parking lot, then south onto Forest Grove Drive to the pedestrian
overpass to the Beaverbrooks back to the Centre; their guestimated
distance 10 k and time, 1:49.
Saturday May 7th: RA Edie, Flora Larry, Rick and Bobtoc met
at the Burnaby Lake parking lot Saturday on a fairly clear and
comfortable temperature morning to proceed west using the Green Valley
Parkway through to Vancouver under the Skytrain route. Separating into
three groups, Edie and Flora ran a bit past Boundary Road before their
return to the parking lot, and from there ran south along the trail at
the side of the playing fields to add on a bit more distance,
culminating in 12 km and time 2:04. Bobtoc rogged solo west past
Boundary Road and the west perimeter of the Mercedes-Benz dealership before his return to the parking lot; his distance and time about 11 km and 1:58. Larry and Rick ran further west as far as Lakewood for a distance of 18 k and time 2:20.
From
Cameron Centre Rod ran solo west using the usual route out to Duthie
Avenue, up Shellmont on the return and back through Forest Grove drive
to Cameron; distance and time 12 k, 1:40 respectively.
Coquitlam Cruisers:
On Thursday Jennel and Heather walked 3 km up and down Parkway Blvd.

At the suggestion of Rod the four set out to walk the Forest Grove route backwards, i.e. to tackle the Gaglardi overpass first, then proceed west on Forest Grove Drive to Underhill, south to Eastlake then east back to the Centre; distance and time 7 km, 1:24.
Wednesday May 11th:On Wednesday evening, fabulous early summer sunny weather greeted Rod, Larry, Laura, Cheryl, Edie, Libby and Flora, as the seven mostly walked Joe’s Trail and return, distance about 7.5 km, time 1h 20m. It was nice and warm and walking was very relaxing, yet we were still out there somewhere as Steve King says. Flora was able to convert to run/walk attire courtesy of Edie’s supply depot from her vehicle, including runners, which was much appreciated by Flora!

Larry, Flora and Bobtoc met at the Centre today, Saturday, on what is
probably the best day of the year for running. Also the day was the
day of the Great Salmon Sendoff at Stoney Creek Elementary School. The
foursome set off on the Stoney Creek trail, hung a left over the small
footbridge to the school grounds where they were greeted by Rod and Pat
who were busy setting up for the morning. The four then continued to
run the Forest Grove Drive route backwards, moving west up to and over
the Gaglardi pedestrian overpass, you know the rest, to Underhill,
Eastlake etal. Distance and time including kibitzing with Rod and Pat,
6+ km and 1:14 respectively.

Bobtoc
was at the Whitecaps game, by all accounts an exciting affair with a
rare bicycle kick goal, with the Whitecaps lads being the victors. On
Saturday Rod will be at the Great Salmon Send off at Stoney Creek
School, building birdhouses. Stop by if you have a chance!

Bob
and bride did indeed see the Whitecaps play Wednesday evening and were
thrilled with the Whitecaps’ win over the Chicago Fire. Great game!
Edie and Christina were at the De Bouville Slough on Saturday where there was a turtle sighting and the tiniest ducklings we had ever seen. Beautiful place to spend an morning.

May 16th: RA
Edie, Cheryl, Flora, Laura, Eoin, Rod and Bobtoc met at the Centre on a
pleasantly cool evening Monday and opted to walk and rog using the
Stoney Creek trail to North Road, Chapman Ave., Robinson St to Foster
Ave., crossed North Road to Lyndhurst St in Burnaby , then Willoughby
back to Cameron St. and the Centre; time and distance 1:14 and 6.5 km. A
fine evening to be sure.
May 18th: RA Edie with canine April, Cheryl, Larry, Laura, Libby and Bobtoc met at the Centre on a pluperfect evening Wednesday; a breeze from the south, ideal temperature, no doubt the best night of the year, and reprised the route used Monday ,i.e, the Stoney Creek trail, North Road, Chapman Avenue, Robinson Street, Ebert Avenue, back to North Road, Cameron St to the Centre. Time and distance, 1:24 and 6.5 km, plus a bit more mileage for Cheryl, Larry and Laura.
Six
Cruisers, accompanied by Athletic Supporters Linda Stanier, a work
colleague of Edie, John Saremba, Ross Johnson and Marie Kuhn motored to
Penticton for the Victoria Day long weekend to compete in the annual
Peach City Half Marathon and 10K races which were run Sunday May 22nd.
Cruisers were awarded four medals, three for performance and one for
seniority. The races started and ended at Skaha Lake, the 10K at 8:00
am and the Half at 8:15 am. The weather for much of the weekend was
overcast and rainy, but on THE DAY the clouds held off any rain and
the temperature was on the cool side, ideal for the runs. The Cameron
Cruisers were welcomed by commentator Steve King, whose recall for the
Cruisers is outstanding. The group for the Saturday evening dinner at
the Villa Rosa restaurant also included Jeff and Jenny Kuhn plus their
youngest daughter Isabelle, making a party of thirteen, a great
occasion to be sure.
Half marathon: Larry 2:04:05, three minutes faster than 2015 per Steve King, 2nd in age group
May 30th: On
Monday at the Centre Stormin’ Norman, Rod, Eoin, Laura, RA Edie, Flora
and Bobtoc met and walked west on Cameron to Government St, south to the
north trail leading to the Burnaby Lake parking lot. Eoin and Bobtoc
teamed up, did not cover as much distance as the others, who walked to
and turned back from the rugby building at the lake to return to the
Centre. Eoin and Bobtoc turned back earlier and were joined by the
others, all to return more or less together. Time for all, 2:22,
distance for Eoin and Bobtoc about 11 km and for the others about 13km.
The weather was no precip, temperature perfect for the walk.

Bestest Running Group Ever!
May 25th: RA
Edie, Cheryl, Laura, Larry and Bobtoc met at the Centre Wednesday
evening; weather was perfect; clouds, ideal temperature, maybe the best
night of the year. Edie, Cheryl, Laura and Bobtoc set out on Cameron
St going west to the high school, and from there commenced their
interval training, slow, medium and fast speeds, as far as Underhill,
and continuing the intervals back to the high school before returning to
the Centre. Time out, 47:37. Larry walked the route since he ran the
half marathon Sunday,
Rene participated in the Shaughnessy 8k. Way to go, Rene!
Only
Larry, Laura and Bobtoc showed up at Rocky Point Saturday am. The trio
did not run but returned to their homes due to rain.
Joe's Trail

Back
in the saddle so to speak with a run Sunday, with their usual meeting
at Town Centre, ran two laps around the park, then separately, Jennel
ran 13.45 km, Heather well over 10 km. The duo enjoyed the sun, enjoyed
their run..
