A day with no rain! Poco Trail
Wednesday, November 2nd: Six Cruisers came out but did not venture out to walk or run due to the dark, inclement night. Instead, a photo was taken to prove that they did attempt to run before retiring to their respective homes to watch the Cubs take the World Series over the Indians. Best game ever!
Alex, Larry ,Flora, Eoin, Rod and Bobtoc met at the Centre Wednesday on a dark, rainy evening. Bobtoc decreed no running due to the very dark and rainy conditions.

Alex,
RA Edie, Larry , Flora, Chris and Christine, Rod and Bobtoc met on a
rainy morning Saturday. Larry was anxious to put mileage on bigtime so
opted to run to Kensington Rink. The destination for the others was in
the direction of the IGA corner. Chris and Christine ran to the hill
immediately before the IGA corner and returned, their distance and time
8.1 km and 1:14 respectively. Larry on his return from Rink revised his
route to include roads south of Eastlake leading to Cameron Street then
up the hill; his distance about 17 k and time 1:47. Alex, Flora and
Rod ran a bit past the IGA corner, distance 10k and time 1:50. Edie
stuck with toc; the two also did the 10k, a bit past the IGA corner,
time 2.00 on the dot. The rain abated soon after the group started
their run/rog/wog, which made conditions ideal for the outing. Rod also
had ahead of him a field hockey game in Surrey to play in the
afternoon.
On
Monday, Hallowe’en evening, Chris and Christine, not having read the
Oct 30 email, turned up and ran the FGD route; 6.4 km in 54 minutes.
Chris reported lots of kids and parents out on Forest Grove Drive. They
also enjoyed good weather; no report on Hallowe’en treats however.
Heather and Jennel celebrated the Rock'n'Roll Half by going out for dinner. Well done, Coquitlam Cruisers. Next up - BMO!
Saturday November 6th:
Monday November 8th: Alex,
RA Edie,, Laura and Eoin, Flora, Chris and Christine, Rod and Bobtoc
met Monday on an almost no rain, mild evening, suitable to use the FG
Drive route frontwards, distance 6.4 or so km. Chris and Christine set
off at a good clip and did the route in 52 minutes. Edie and Rod
teamed up, did the route in 1:18. The remaining four, Alex, Laura, Eoin
and Bobtoc formed the last group in, their time 1:23. The very little
precip, temperature and visibility encouraged the eight to enjoy a good
outing, which included a catchup on football information from Eoin.
Coquitlam
Cruisers. Jennel ran approximately 5 km to Heather’s home Monday
morning, distance 5 km, then in the evening both Heather and Jennel met
in the evening for a walk down the hill to Johnson, down Johnson to
Runnel Drive to Milestones, 4 km for a ladies’ night out to celebrate
their half marathon achievement. They also discussed their next half
marathon plans.
Wednesday November 9th: On
Wednesday night, ‘twas a fine night indeed, as Edie, canine April,
Flora, Alex, Rod and Larry enjoyed a mild and dry evening. The group
walked the Forest Grove route going along Beaverbrook past the Stoney
Creek school, up and across the Gaglardi Way overpass, FG to Underhill,
then Eastlake and you know the rest. Larry started running at the
bottom of the FG hill and motored along, doing the Underhill hill 2X as
hills are his friends (wouldn’t Libby be proud!), and finished with
about 7.75 km in 1h 10m, while the others continued walking
approximately 7 km in 1h 25m. René stopped by to greet us before we
headed out for our journey; nice to see him and we may see him on
Saturday.
Saturday November 12th: On
Saturday morn, eight Cruisers took advantage of the temporary rain
stoppage. Larry, René, Edie, Flora, Susan, Alex, Laura and Eoin started
out along Stoney Creek trail, with the six walkers proceeding up North
Road, Chapman to Robinson, to Appian Way, Whiting Way, back to North
Road and Cameron, distance about 8 km, time about 1h 10m, then went to
Tim Horton’s for coffee and timbits, otherwise known as lardballs to the
e-lite athletes. René and Larry went up North Rd., up Burnaby Mountain
power line trail, and continued across to Centennial Park, down to
Duthie Ave. and along Greystone, Arden, Broadway, Eastlake, back to
Cameron, back to the Stoney Creek trail, south on North Rd., then
through Sullivan Heights area and back to Cameron Centre, distance 19
km, time 2h 14m. Larry thanks René for pushing him onwards!
Fortunately there were a few lardballs left which were appreciated!
Monday November 14th: On Monday, Laura, Alex, Edie and Bob met at Cameron under the Super
Moon for a walk through the Forest Grove Loop. It was probably the
chilliest outing so far and time for gloves, but no rain. We followed
the moon going in and out behind the clouds and it was a spectacular
sight. We did not encounter any werewolves or lunatics on our 6.8k walk
in 1:29, present company excepted. Lovely night to be out.
To remind us that summer will come again and it won't be dark and rainy.
Wednesday November 16th: I
went to Cameron Centre but it was horrid out there and nobody else
showed up, so I went home. At about 7 pm it was no longer raining.
Let’s hope for better weather on Saturday morning!
Coquitlam
Cruisers update: Heather & Jennel have been keeping active with
walks and aerobics etc. But will slowly get back into a run schedule
soon. McDonalds is offering FREE coffee to everyone from Nov. 14-20…so
there’s a good location to run to and debrief!!! Apparently, you’re
supposed to rest 1 day per km raced….so we’ve hit 21 days as of
today….so “back on the horse we get!” Jennel
walked/ran the Coquitlam Crunch Monday afternoon on a clear/brisk day,
7.14km…..McDonalds is at the bottom of the Crunch, and she got that
free coffee.
Saturday November 19th: On
Saturday, Eoin, Laura, René and Larry used the unexpected break in the
rain – it was actually perfect weather for a run or walk – to get out
and get at it. The Farrelly's navigated the Forest Grove Drive route
via Beaverbrook, Gaglardi overpass, down Underhill etc. Time 8.15 am to
9.30 am...1hr 15min.....6.6 km. Larry and René, in boot camp, went up
Burnaby Mtn. using Stoney Creek trail, up North Road, powerline trail,
then down at Centennial Park, then up again over the mountain and down
powerline trail, along Chapman, Robinson to Smith, crossed North Road,
down to Noel Drive and back to Cameron Centre, time 2hr 8min, 17.5 km.
Monday November 21st: Alex and Flora paired off:
Route- Ran Under hill and back down the hill and backDistance- 7.5km
Time- 78mins
Chris and Christina ran the Forest Grove loop in 50
minutes and Laura, Eoin, April and Edie walked to Eastlake and Underhill
and return after April and Edie had walked to Eastlake and Cameron return.
Edie and April met Eoin and Laura on our return so walked with them. It was a
clear night, which was great for being out. Nice to be out without
getting soaked.

Wednesday November 23rd: Greetings,
Cruisers, Thanks to Larry who continued the emails to the Cruisers. I
shall however report on the get together Wednesday Nov 23 at Paros
Taverna. After a short walk by Cruisers not counting Bobtoc or
athletic supporters, Alex, Edie, Flora, Laura and Eoin, Christina and
John, Rod and Pat, Marie, Ivan, Tish, Cheryl and Larry convened at Paros
Taverna for dinner or drinks for celebration of three November
birthdays; those of Christina, Flora and Bobtoc. Under the supervision
of Edie, (what would we do without her?) Cruisers were invited instead
of gifts to the birthday celebrants to bring non-perishable foodstuffs
for the church of Bob and Marie for distribution to First United Church
or to recipients of what Cliff Avenue United Church describe as their
bread ministry; ie, distribution of bakery goods every Friday morning at
the church of the unsold goods of Cobs Bakery, a chain started in
Australia. This ministry has been ongoing for quite a few years at
Cliff Avenue, plus other outlets which are recipients of Cobs products.
A trunkful (Honda Civic size) of goods including some toiletry items
were the result, plus $95, which will be used for contribution to First
United or food certificates from Cliff Avenue. Incidentally, $20 of the
amount was donated by a friend of Ivan’s whom Ivan and the undersigned
met at the Cameron Centre parking lot. The toiletries will go to First
United; they are always in need of those gifts for distribution, as
will most likely most of the foodstuffs. Speaking of gifts, Bobtoc was
presented with a pencil portrait sketch of himself done by Eoin who is
an art student in a class taught by a man with only one arm! Those in
attendance saw the portrait which was extremely well done. Special
thanks, Eoin. The Christmas spirit has started, obviously. May I, also
bride Marie, thank the Cruisers for their generosity! Last word; those
in attendance enjoyed the time together.

Thanks to all those that joined the birthday dinner/appetizer/dessert celebration last Wednesday, November 23rd
at Paros Taverna. Needless to say the evening event was full of good
food and even better company. The highlight of the evening was the
wonderful gifts given to Bob (of the Red Hat Service) including a
portrait.

Coquitlam Cruisers: Jennel hiked the Coquitlam Crunch Friday morning.
Monday November 25th: RA
Edie with canine April, Flora, Rod and Bobtoc welcomed Engilla Wali to
the group Monday evening. Engilla saw our bulletin board at the Centre;
was looking for a group to be with. The four Cruisers were pleased to
see and meet her. The five ran or rogged the Forest Grove Drive route
on the evening of NO RAIN and a comfortable temperature. Flora, Rod
and Engilla ran together, their time to complete about 1:16, and Edie
and Bobtoc completed the route in time of 1:24, distance for all 6.6 km.
Coquitlam
Cruisers: Jennel hiked the Coquitlam Crunch Tuesday afternoon, up to
the top 10 minutes + or – 10 minutes three times. She
then ran at Town Centre Tuesday evening while daughter Anamaria was at
soccer practise. Jennel mingled with the Running Room Club and ran with
them again, found them super fast! Jennel also ran the BMO half under
name Dana Dean time 1.55.30.
Wednesday November 30th: Alex,A
Edie, Eoin, Flora, Larry, Rod and Bobtoc appeared at the Centre
Wednesday on a no rain, chilly evening. The group opted to take the
FGD route frontward, so set off with Eoin and Bobtoc teaming up to
walk/run, with the remainder setting off at a faster pace. Edie, Flora,
Larry and Rod did the 6.6 km distance in 1.14. Eoin and Bobtoc did the
6.6 km distance; Alex added on extra distance, at least a mile, to
prepare for a race on the weekend; the time for the three, 1:26.
Coquitlam Cruisers: Jennel ran the Coquitlam Crunch Wednesday, logged 8 km. Becoming a soccer mom too.
