June 3rd: Alex,
RA Edie with canine April, Flora (congratulations Flora for showing up
at 7:56 am!}, Larry, Len with granddog Jax, Mary McNichol, Susan and
Bobtoc met at the Burnaby Lake parking lot Saturday am on an overcast
but dry morning. At Len’s suggestion the group headed for Deer Lake
via Kensington Ave south into the Burnaby Heritage area to Sperling
Avenue, thence into the Deer Lake trail on the south side of the lake, then headed west, then north, then east, passing the Shadbolt Centre and its parking lot, back to Canada Way, Kensington Avenue into the Burnaby Lake parking lot. Items of interest pointed out by Len were the heron nests high up in the parkland’s tallest trees. Distance, 6.44 km, time 1:15 to 1:18.
June 5th: Alex, RA Edie with canine April, and Bobtoc did a short walk Monday on a warm evening using the Stoney Creek trail to North Road and return, 4 km and close to an hour; my watch battery packed it in; cannot recall the exact time, about 59 minutes.

am pleased to report that we had our first diversion picking salmon
berries today on our run to Mundy Park. They seem to be a little late
this year recovering from the winter. Lots of berries to come so keep
your eyes peeled and stay away from low lying berries.
Also
many thanks to the Cruisers for 60th birthday wishes and some lovely
wine. It will undoubtedly be put to good use. So very thoughtful.

Heather ran 12km in the afternoon, Jennel walked 4km in the evening.
Sunday, Jennel ran the Coquitlam Crunch for 8km in the early evening.
Lots of people on the Crunch.
Jennel & Heather ran 18km Tuesday morning down the Trabouley Trail & back! Nice run in the shade!
June 7th: RA
Edie with April, Ivan, Larry and Bobtoc opted to walk Wednesday on a
warm and sunny evening using once again the Stoney Creek trail. Edie
turned back at the North Road gate, and the trio walked north on North
to Chapman Avenue before returning to the Centre. Distance for Edie
about km, for the trio about 4.5 km and their time,1:06. A few rain
drops were noted as the four drove off, advance notice of the rain
forecast for Thursday. Good news; no need to water the lawn.
Friday morning Heather & Jennel met at the corner of David & Pinetree and ran 3 laps around Town Centre Park to get their total kilometres for the week. Heather ran 12 km today and Jennel ran 15 km. Total for the week 42 km:)June 10th:
On Saturday morning, Alex, Larry, Flora, Susan, Edie and canine April walked along the Stoney Creek trail and up North Road to the entrance to the pipeline trail, where Alex, Larry and Flora walked along to Jim’s Jungle trail and took that down Burnaby Mtn. and met Susan, Edie and April, who walked down North Road. The group then returned via Stoney Creek trail. It was cloudy and looked like it was going to rain, but because the Cruisers were out, it did not dare rain. That’s our story and we’re sticking to it! Distance, 5.8 km, time 1h 25m.

Goddess Run (run on Sunday) results:
5 K Edie Kernighan 1:04:34, Christina Saremba, no result posted that I could find.
Then
the two ran the Goddess Run Sunday morning…started at Heather’s and ran
to Hyde Creek Recreational Centre, ran the 10 km along with everyone
else and ran back to Heather’s. Total …21 km!!! YAHOO!!!!
On
the Run, they saw Edie and Christina….Looking good as always! It was
a fabulous run along the dyke by the water….it was smoking hot out, so
it was lovely to be running through the trees on the trail!
Im famous!!! ha! ha! I made the trip-city news!!!! For the Goddess
Run! It’s quite stunning!!! LOL I totally remember when he took that
shot…..I saw some guy taking pictures, he said “smile for the

June 12th: RA
Edie with canine April, Flora and Bobtoc walked Monday on a +15C cloudy
evening, chose once again the Stoney Creek trail to the gate at North
Road . Flora and Bobtoc continued up the hill on North Road to Chapman
Ave before returning, while Edie started her trek back to the Centre.
Flora was a tad late getting to the Centre, so parked her car on Cameron
St and joined the other two near the entrance to the Stoney Creek
trail. Time for all, 1:05; distance for Edie, 4 km and for Flora and
Bobtoc call it 4.5 km.
June 14th:
On
Wednesday evening, RA Edie and April, Larry, Rod, Flora and Bobtoc
used the FGDrive route backwards, returning via Underhill, Eastlake etal
to the Centre. Conditions cloudy, no rain, +16C, usual distance close
to 8 km, time 1:27.
Here's a new way to Cruise!
Scotia Half June 25th: Jennel and Heather completed the half in 2:17 on a hot, but beautiful day and Edie did the 5k in 46 minutes. The event was well organized as usual and Steve King remembered me as I crossed the finish line. I wore my Cruiser shirt and Peach City running hat.

Creek trail once again, taking into account the heat of the day. The
five experienced a breeze and a cooler temperature than that of the
day. Time and distance, 1.05 and 4.05 respectively.

June 17th: Gillian,
Larry, Rod and Bobtoc did the Coquitlam Crunch Saturday morning on a
cloudy but no precip morning, starting from Runnel Drive then going
north up to the Eagle Mountain Road and return; 437 steps plus gravel
path, an elevation increase of 244 metres, total distance covered some
4.5 km, time 1:40 or so. The climb provided great views looking south
and west of the Fraser River, the Metrotown high rises, and out to the
west, some glimpses of ocean. The route was fairly busy with runners,
walkers, dogs on leash, or, was it owners on leash? In any event, the
foursome enjoyed the scenic workout. The four debriefed on ground level
at Tim Hortons shop with coffee upon their return.
Coquitlam Cruisers:
Heather
& Jennel met at Pinetree & David Friday morning, ran 2 laps of
park; total 12km each. Total for the week….56km!!!
Also, on June 17th, Flora, Angela and Alex volunteered for the Special Olympics at Central Park.
June 19th: Rod,
Alex and Cora, Edie and April walked the Stony Creek Trail for a change
while solving the problems of the world. It was a lot warmer than we
thought, except for the puppies, we could have used less layers.
Jennel
& Heather are winding up for the Scotiabank this Sunday. Monday
they met at their usual spot and ran 2 laps around Town Centre Park,
running into a couple ladies from their Church who were walking their
cute dogs. Caught up on current events, and off the two gals ran, making
their long run for the week. Heather ran 10km and Jennel did a touch
extra coming in at 13.77. Weather calls for a HOT (27 Vancouver)
Sunday, .so all of us running the Scotia… dress accordingly - Tank-Tops
it is!!!! Could change? But that’s what it reads for 9am!?! Yikes!!!

June 21st: On
Wednesday evening, Edie and canine April, Flora, Larry, Eoin and Laura
took advantage of the beautiful sunny weather and walked Joe’s Trail.
Such a great evening to be outside – it lifted everyone’s spirits.
Distance just about 8 km, time just under 2 hours.
Rod was AWOL at Adams Lake:
June 24th: RA
Edie together with canine April, Susan, Larry, Laura and Eoin, Ivan
and Bobtoc met at the Centre circa 8:00 am and walked therefrom to the
north trail of Burnaby Lake as far as the spit and the nature house
before returning to the Centre. The group had good views of the ducks, a
few generations of them, folks with their young children plus a few
dogs on leash, lily pads on the lake. The temperature was OK at that
time of the day, but it obviously was building, and indeed it was in
the high 10’s in the pm. Edie took a number of great photos of the
flora in and around the lake today.

Wednesday: On
Wednesday evening, RA Edie with April, Alex, Flora, ,Larry, Laura and
Bobtoc chose a route backwards to walk being east using Willoughby Ave
to Casewell St, east crossing North Road to Foster Avenue, continuing to
Robinson, north on Robinson, crossing to the entrance to the Stoney
Creek trail, then south back to Noel Drive, Cameron St back to the
Centre. Weather was perfect: 20C temperature, a cooling easy breeze,
blue skies. Time and distance, 1.33 and 6.6 km respectively, with the
usual short sojourn at the familiar fence to lean on at the Centre at
the end of the walk. Life is good..
New twins - the others didn't get the memo.
