Week of July 16th

Monday's run turned out to be a long walk, occasioned by the very hot weather. Edie, Laura, Rod and Bobtoc ran west to Government Street to Brighton Avenue, then into the walk mode to Government Road, Phillips Avenue, Chutter,Chrisdale, Kraft Crescent, a park, the Lougheed Highway near which the four encountered a police speed trap, partially manned by the New Westminster Police service,can't figure that one out,  then onto Production Way, Enterprise St past the Global TV building, Eastlake and return to the Centre.  Time and distance, 1:51,  9.2 km.

On Wednesday, Christina, John, Debra, Rod, Edie, Jennel, Anamaria and Sofia met at the Running Room for the annual 20 minute challenge.  A lovely night for a walk or a swing as in the case of the two mini Cruisers.  We all have another blue hat.  Our leader was AWOL and now we know he was in his alter ego role as Beckham Bob.  Who knew????  


Our leader has left us in the lurch and returned to his first love of soccer. There wasn’t enough crowd adoration in the running world and bigger and better medals to be had.

On Saturday morning six Cruisers ran/walked from the Centre west on the usual route using Eastlake, identified Larry arriving late, doubled back to collect him at Beaverbrook and Eastlake, then south on Production Way to Government Road to Phillips Avenue, on the way checking out houses under construction, calculated among ourselves the only way to buy one would be to rent out the bedrooms by the hour.  The six: Edie, Laura, Alex, Larry, Rod and Beckhambobtoc continued to Phillips Ave, turned south Winston, then east on Winston-Government St to return to the Centre through the trail, over the bridge, Cameron Street.  A light drizzle was experienced much of the time, temperature was ideal.  Time and distance, 1:25,  9.5 or so km.

Debra writes: .  Started at Horseshoe Bay trail head at 5:11 am.  Good grunt, mostly uphill to Eagles Bluff.  Encountered a bear growl about 1 hour into our hike which freaked us all out.  We had air horns, whistles, bear spray in hand and cautiously continued on in a very noisy fashion.  Somewhat scary but it kept us on bear alert the rest of our hike.

Made it to Cypress Bowl in 4 hours, took a 20 minute nature/fuel break then started leg 2 to Cleveland Dam/Grouse Mountain.   Arrived at the Grouse Mtn. parking lot at 3:20pm.  Alex had huge nasty blisters on both his feet. Angela and I decided to abort doing the rest of the hike to Deep Cove because we knew we were very long getting to Grouse and not going to finish in daylight.  Will try again next year.

 Weather was fine, we got some light rain only but not for long.  Had fun trying.  Hopefully you and Miriam can join us when we try again.

Sunday:  Grouse Grind : 

Tracy, Rosemarie Preston and Larry climbed the Grouse Grind Sunday 6:30 or before on a misty morning.  The temperature at the top was cool to cold with little view due to the mists.  Larry's time, 1:20.
